WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR

Thank you for finding St. Jude A.M.E. Church on the World Wide Web.

We are “The Family Church for All People, Where Jesus Christ Is Lord.” Nine years ago, we chose that as our motto because God showed us that in the Washington Metropolitan area, too many people feel alone. In areas such as Germantown, people tend to get up in the morning and drive to work. After work, they drive home. At home they relax, eat and go to bed. Life in the big city is centered on our jobs. We are known, in some circles not by our name but, by our job titles.

St. Jude has worked and continues to work to be an open accepting community for people who are led by the Holy Spirit.  Our membership over the last nine years has included persons from California to South Carolina and Massachusetts to Florida.

We have members from various African and Caribbean nations. Members live in Reston, VA, Silver Spring, Onley, Frederick and Germantown, MD, and Washington, DC. Our members are intentional in combating racism, sexism and classism among our ranks.

We are a Bible teaching church which encourages its members to study the word of God in private sessions, at prayer and Bible study meetings and in church school. We believe that God has messages for us in His word and that we must diligently be seekers of his truth.

As a member church in the African Methodist Episcopal Denomination, we cherish diversity; speak out against injustice and work to build community. In the book of Luke, it is written that Jesus stood up to read and they handed him the scroll and he read, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

If you are in the Washington Metropolitan area, and are looking for a church to call home, come by and be welcome. Come on by and see how good and pleasant it is when brothers and sister can be united.
